HYPNOSIS FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of heightened receptivity in which you’re able to refocus your mind and body for success. It’s a collaborative and integrative process for changing habits and behaviors, and rewiring limiting beliefs.
Have you ever found yourself completely immersed in an activity or in the zone, where you were not aware of anything else? This is a natural trance state and you’ve already experienced it thousands of times. Common examples of this are when you’re watching a movie and you become absorbed in the plot. Or when you’re working and realize that a few hours have flown by. It’s not a magical thing or mind control, but it is a tool that can help you tap into the power of your mind and take control of your life.
What does hypnosis feel like?
The hypnotic state can feel like a total escape from physical tension and emotional stress, while still being very present. You will remain alert and aware of the process and everything that is going on. You will be able to speak, move, and open your eyes at any time. Some clients report hyper-awareness of their surroundings. Many clients report a feeling of profound relaxation and better sleep.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Everyone has the ability to be hypnotized if they are willing to be! When working with a trained professional, the techniques and series will be customized for you. Even after the sessions are over my clients report that they are able to use the techniques for continued success.
Will I be out of control?
No. Hypnosis is a collaborative state of mind that requires consent. You’ll be aware of everything I am saying in session and cannot be made to do anything that goes against your morals. I can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do.
One misconception of hypnosis is you may be unable to be hypnotized. In fact, the stronger you are able to focus and concentrate the faster, easier, and more effective the process will be.
Will I be asleep?
How long does it take?
Rapid change is what my clients are hoping for and is possible with hypnosis. Most of my clients are scheduled for a brief series of sessions, and my goal is to provide you with the most effective process in the most efficient use of your time. As you will be learning self-hypnosis you are gaining tools that you can apply beyond our work together for all areas of life.
Does hypnosis work online?
Yes. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person, with the added benefit of convenience, comfort and no traffic! Also, because you are in your own space, you might even be in the environment where the issue exists, and now have the chance to create new anchors for positive change in that space where it is happening. All you need is a private space with a strong WiFi connection, headphones and the Zoom app.
Will hypnotherapy help me with a medical condition?
Hypnosis has been officially recognized by the American Medical Association since 1958 as a legitimate and safe therapeutic approach to assisting with medical and psychological problems. It can help many common symptoms including migraines, high blood pressure, IBS, insomnia, cancer, skin problems, and more. Some medical conditions will require a referral from a medical doctor. Please see this White Paper on Hypnosis for Common Medical Conditions for more information.
What is NLP?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP, is an approach that involves using a set of techniques to identify the strategies and patterns of behavior learned through experience, and to reprogram or enhance one’s ability to act positively and constructively. In a nutshell, our perception of events creates a behavior or reaction and an emotional state. Changing our perception is one way to change our behavior and how we feel. We can also remove negative triggers and create positive states or anchors to replace them. NLP is used by many high performers, athletes, and public speakers, and creates rapid and powerful change, while also being extremely fun!
NLP is commonly used for help with phobias, cravings, fear of public speaking, procrastination and can help in all areas of life.
